Your identity is definitely tied to your work. When you are retired, you somehow feel a little bit invisible like you have faded a bit. I quite often refer to what the dolphins say in Hitchhiker’s guide. Does selling your time/life to a company or organisation give you identity? Or purpose?

The guy does bring up a good point ...

I have learned to take full responsibility since living in Japan no matter what. Train late, I am late, I am responsible... to me it feels like a sign of maturity.

While many will deny in what I call "the dog ate my homework' excuse to abscond taking responsibility.
